Bartlesville OK – North Carolina carp anglers Colin Peters and Tom Brooks earned a spot in the prestigious World Carp Classic after clinching first place honors at the CARPT Tournament Series South Central Regionals at Lake Hominy, Oklahoma on April 18th. The win for the two-man team guaranteed the duo entry to the contest at Lac de Madine in France this August.  The Hominy competition was the first-ever USA qualifier for the famed World Championship tournament.

Colin Peters 23lbs4Peters and Brooks faced seemingly unconquerable conditions during the grueling 118-hour tournament at Lake Hominy.  Hominy is known among carp anglers as one of the toughest venues in the United States, but the team managed to take top honors landing a total of 85 lbs. 15 oz. of carp, including a large common carp tipping the scales at 26 lbs. 7 oz. while not succumbing to unusual spring weather patterns.

The pair will again face challenging conditions in France as the long-established World Carp Classic is well known for high-intensity competition over 5 nights and 6 days with high-stakes purses which over the years add up to over $700,000.  The duo are not unfamiliar to the French venue having competed among 130 teams at the 1,100 acre lake in 2008.

Peters and Brooks of Greensboro and Kings Mountain, North Carolina, respectively, have been on a hot streak in pro-level competitions adding Hominy to their portfolio of moneyed positions at other CARP Tournament Series events such as the Northeast Regionals in Baldwinsville for the past two years.

Tom Brooks 26lbs7“I’m not surprised to see Colin and Tom capture the honors at Hominy.  It’s a tricky venue, and they fought hard to win,” says tournament director David Moore.  “Together they have a lot of skill and tenacity.  Representing Team USA at the World Carp Classic in France is well-deserved.  We’re grateful to Ross Honey and the WCC for this joint venture and prize package.”

The newly formed alliance with the UK-based World Carp Classic and the sanction of the CARP Tournament Series South Central Regionals gives Lake Hominy the distinction of being recognized as a world-class venue.

“We at the JRC World Carp Classic were pleased to learn that Colin and Tom will be returning to France,” comments Ross Honey founder and producer of the World Carp Classic.  “Naming the South Central Regionals as our inaugural partner tournament cements our commitment to the American circuit anglers and CARP Tournament Series’ events in the United States.  Congratulations to Colin and Tom for the win and to David Moore and the CARPTS organization for a successful tournament.”

The CARPTS South Central Regionals were sponsored by Reuben Heaton scales, Fox International, EconoLodge, Big Carp Tackle, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and the St. Lawrence Experience.
