A couple of weeks ago the 1st Spanish World Carp Classic qualifying event took place on Lake Orellana, Extremadura Spain. The heat was extreme with temperatures soaring above 35 Deg C+. Those brave pairs fishing caught an amazing 1,595lbs of carp.

This massive haul represents the biggest ever in the history of any carp fishing match held on Orellana. Event organisers Andy Macgregor and Peter Staggs from the Spanish carp fishing magazine CARPdiem used their knowledge and local research provided by Craig Reid from Extrema Fishing to put the competitors into the best swims possible. Doing the draw, the organisers Andy MacGregor & Peter StaggsThose competing had plenty of water to fish with wide space from one Angler too another. This allowed competitors to search for fish and bait up if they wished at ranges beyond 300 metres. Those taking part in the event were not just Spanish; actually competitors from Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Scotland, England and Spain were competing. The pairs were split into 3 sections, all of which produced fish. Finally the event was won by two Spanish anglers Fran Granados and Jorge Sacristian. The two Anglers fished non stop at 280 metre range rowing baits back and forth, night and day, it was grueling work in the sun but the pair worked at it, and clearly demonstrated they have what it takes to win. The duo caught 40 fish over the minimum weight of 5kg (11.02lb), for a total weight of 816 lb. With this massive catch they took 1st prize winning a place in the finals, JRC Rods, pods and unhooking mats.

They also won biggest fish prize of Dynamite Baits Red Fish Boilies and Dips and a range of PB Products goodies for the capture of the biggest fish, a cracking 14.5kg (31.96lb) common carp. The prizes for the dynamic Spanish duo didn't stop there, they also took first fish prize snatching more Dynamite baits Peach and Mango boilies dips and pop ups. In second place was local guide Lee Hutchinson from Catch Carp Spain (UK). Lee showed he knows more than a thing or two about how to fish the massive and challenging lake. Jorge Sacristian with another cracking common carpLee and his partner Stuart managed to catch 122kg more than 270lb of carp to secure 2nd place prize of a JRC 2 man bivvy with over wrap and Reuben Heaton scales.

From start to finish the ambiance was great, everyone was very proud to be part of this prestige's event. All contestants were given a welcome pack of Dynamite baits products, keeping spirits high. High spirits remained too, as more than 85% of the Anglers caught fish and made carp fishing history on Orellana. This year was fantastic all round and next year is set to be a winner.

The organisers would like to thank the Mayor of the supporting village Pueblo de Alcocer - Manuel Moreno Delgado, The Junta de Extremadura, and the Hotel Cordoniz for their help coordinating and hosting the event as well as the sponsors Dynamite Baits, PB Products, Enterprise Tackle and JRC.

The winning pair Jorge Sacristian and Fran Granados are delighted with their results and are looking forward to representing their country and competing in the final on Lake Madine, in France
