WORLD CARP CLASSIC 2008- LAC De MADINE

Reuben Heaton has yet again signed a sponsorship deal to support the fast growing World Carp Classic event, to be held this year at the fantastic Lac de Madine venue in the Meuse region of France.

Reuben Heaton is one of the select few companies proud to have been a supporter of the event since its very beginning back in 1998. Over the years the event has grown in stature, allowing world class anglers from many countries to compete for the fifty thousand pound prize table, and the coveted golden scales awarded each year by Reuben Heaton. Only two gold dialled scales are produced each year by the company, and each is engraved with the winner’s name. These have become a much sought after item and are by design not the easiest of the Reuben Heaton products to acquire.

In addition, for the 10th Anniversary event in 2008, the World Carp Classic organisers commissioned Reuben Heaton to build a limited edition scale for each of the contestants fishing the event. At the opening ceremony and evening peg draw event anglers were greeted by the now famous “wall of scales” display on the main stage with a total of 360 scales forming a backdrop to the festivities.

 2008 Prize table

The 2008 tenth anniversary event held at Lac de Madine, proved to be the most successful yet, with teams from over 25 countries attempting to win the coveted prize, and a total of over five hundred applications for a mere one hundred and twenty pegs. This year the competition has sold out within months of the 2008 event closing, a sign that this competition is still gaining momentum and will continue its rise as one of the premier angling events worldwide.

During the 2008 event, contestants managed to catch a total of ninety four fish for an incredible total weight of one thousand two hundred and seventy two kilos. The largest fish of the event was an incredible 23.70kg (52.2lb) mirror caught by Pascal Gallion and Tim Mack fishing for Luxembourg. Fish began to feed throughout the event with the first fish being caught by famous British angler Dave Lane only a couple of hours after the start.

As in every event since its inception in 1998, the World Carp Classic official scales were the Reuben Heaton 400 series scales. In this instance the current JRC model of the 4000 series was used to weigh all the fish caught during the event, with the marshalling carried out by the combined fishery student team from Sparsholt and Suttleworth colleges.

Now all that remains is to look forward to the 2009 event, which is sure to be even better than last year. Already oversubscribed, the event promises to be a hard fought affair, with teams from over 25 countries again in attendance, including a squad from the US. As always Reuben Heaton will be there as official scales provider and with an even greater prize table I am sure things will be very exiting indeed.

Madine always seems to provide some new twist to the events history and in 2008 we saw many new bench marks set with bigger and better weights and attendance. You can keep up with the goings on as this year’s event gathers momentum by logging on to the newly launched official website at www.worldcarpclassic .com and keep up with the news items as they break.
