As some of you know, I intended to fish the WCC last year but on doctor’s orders I had to pull out. This year however, providing I follow my doctor’s orders, I will be there to fish this amazing event. We all feel it is vitally important that everyone realises that we are all anglers, despite our visible and sometimes hidden disabilities. If we all help one another out, then all anglers can continue to enjoy and support this great sport and recreational pursuit that we love so dearly… This is about raising awareness as much as our love of fishing. The team will be made up of myself, Jim Williams and our runner David Pooley. Now all 3 of us are registered as disabled and I have been informed this will be a first for the WCC to have one team who are all disabled. Our disabilities will not prevent us from competing on a level footing as far as the angling goes. As for getting about, well that will prove difficult for me as I am in a wheelchair, but between that, my crutches and shuffling about on my backside, we will get the job done. Our organization, (Reels on Wheels), has no funds as such, so we are on the hunt for sponsorship and we are begging and borrowing, (notice I didn’t mention stealing!), from anybody who is looking for publicity. Chris from Mr. Baits Boilies has agreed to sponsor us for our boilies, but we still have many things to sort out and arrange. Our biggest need of course, is for a 10 - 12 foot inflatable boat that meets the required standards. We are looking for one at the moment and have asked several companies if they would be willing to donate one. Firstly it would be used for the WCC and then on our return, my organization would use it to teach young, disabled/less able kids about water safety, so it would serve two main purposes. If you know anybody who has one they don’t use, or a company who would donate one, please let me know. We were also hoping to get a tackle company behind us, not for rods or reels etc., as we have those, (although wouldn’t say no to new ones lol), but we we’d like somebody to sponsor us for end tackle. Many companies are saying that times are hard and this is understandable, but I am sure somebody out there would like to be involved with us. Jim and I are fishing a couple of carp matches this year just to stay on top of our game and we are all looking forward to making new friends from around the world and being part of such a prestigious event. I will write a few articles on what and how we are getting ready and who is doing what to help us. We as a team would like to wish all anglers taking part Tight Lines and a safe trip to the venue. See you there I have created a blog that will follow our build up to the WCC and it can be found at Nick Rowe (Founder of Reels on Wheels.)
