Madine Goes Green

Firstly some of you will have been seriously concerned about the news that Ross broke regarding the banning of beer on the lake this year, the headline was correct but only if the beer is in glass bottles!! Beer in cans is allowed which will be a big relief to you all. The ban is not just for the WCC but for all visitors to the lake throughout the year, anyone breaking the rule will be removed from Madine by their security guards, so please, please don’t spoil your experience of the event by taking beer in glass bottles to the WCC and getting yourself banned. There will be nothing we can do for you and there will be no exceptions.

Also there will be bigger changes to rubbish in 2010 at the lake in that recycling will be enforced for the event and for the whole of Madine in general. This means that all competitors will be responsible for sorting rubbish into various categories, much the same as you do at home. More information will come out on this as we get it and how it will be implemented.

Additionally, following the end of last years event I was disgusted by the number of bags of rubbish left around the lake, which took days to clear up and filled so many boats it was ridiculous. So this year, whilst marshals will remove bags during the event, on the last morning it will be the responsibility of all competitors to take away any remaining rubbish bags from their peg. Any competitor not doing this will be banned from entering the competition in the future and any prize won will be forfeited. This is harsh but if everyone takes responsibility it is a simple and quick operation and leaves the lake as we all found it.
