For the first time ever, a World Carp Classic Qualifying event will be held both for, and in the host country itself. It is with great pleasure that we can provide you here with a few details about the location where it will be held…
Salto Lake was created during World War II and is the largest artificial lake in Lazio, located in the Province of Rieti. In 1940 it was
created by the damming of the river Salto and the consequent flooding of the homonymous Salto valley deep in Cicolano. Its waters are shared with those of the nearby lake of Turano, another hydroelectric reservoir, through an artificial channel of about 9 km running below the ridge of Mount Navegna (1508 m). The two reservoirs of Salto and Turano Cotilia feed the hydroelectric power plant, built in 1942 to serve the Rieti Valley. In addition to a large value of hydroelectric power, beautiful shores and extreme nature surrounds the lake. The size of carp ranges from 8 kg to 25 kg - mostly common carp, but also mirror carp and grass carp. Italian anglers love this great lake because the sport was actually born there with Sandro di Cesare and he calls it ‘’the diamond of central Italy’’. We look forward to telling you more about this Qualifying event after its conclusion, and we would like to wish good luck to all the contestants and the Italian organizers committed to making thisevent a memorable and historic occasion for Italian carp angling.
