I’ve been playing around with my new rods from JRC; I had the choice of rods to use and opted for the new Razor X range. My final decision was the more beefy 3 ¼lb test curve as most of my fishing this year would be long range using solid pva bags. After receiving the rods I have been putting them through their paces throughout the last 3 months, now it’s time to take them to the next level, over the next few months I intend for them to see lots of action from fishing in France and casting long ranges and not least some fish on the bank. Now when looking to gain distance I started looking at my whole set up, starting with line and then considering which type of leads
would suit my type of fishing. After having a good look at the Berkley range of line, which I have to admit took me a while as the choice was massive, I came across the XTS line which was new and really took my fancy. The line was a smooth mono in brown colour and would fill my three spools with style. Now I had sorted the rods and line out it was time to look at which leads would suit me? I’ve decided to change my set up this year and use mainly inline leads. I ordered them last week and when I got them, I was well impressed. I ordered two types: square and pear shaped both in 3 ¼oz. Both were well coated in brown and green. Now it was time to go to my local lake for a casting session, after casting all my rods out and letting the line bed in it was time to see what kind of distance I could achieve. I started off casting normal without putting too much power into the cast just to see what I could hit; well the line was coming of the spool very smoothly and after winding in the line lay was very good too.
So it was time to start putting some power into my cast, and after a short time I was hitting some good distance (not bad for me being a short guy). I was soon hitting distances I have never hit before and was well pleased with my results. To see video link for my range casting http://www.youtube.com/user/jrcfishing Tight Lines Scott
