Carp show in Budapest

Following an invitation from the organisers of a carp show in Budapest last weekend, Andy Chambers and I, accompanied by the current World Carp Classic Champions, Rob Tough and Tom Duncan Dunlop headed for the red eye flight from Luton. Only 3 of us made the flight! That was a good start.

250-pic1Not to mention any names, but Tom decided it was better to park his car at Gatwick and had private transport to the show. On arrival in Budapest we were greeted by Peter who was to be our translator for the weekend. I don’t think he quite realised the job he had undertaken and how many miles he would end up driving. Our hotel, with very comfortable rooms, was located on the river bank over looking the Danube and just 10 minutes from the show. After a quick visit to the show to get our bearings we set off for lunch which necessitated having one or two beers and wine. Needless to say, it was a long lunch. That evening was a quiet one....early to bed…I don’t think so! I think the last of the guys rolled in at about 4am. Great start to a great weekend.

250-pic2The show was the first dedicated carp show in Hungry and organised by the Carplove team. The main hall was very well laid out and there were a good selection of companies. From the main hall there was a hallway that had stands in which lead outside where the catering and beer stalls were located. The backdrop to this was Lake Omszki which was used for casting demonstrations by none other than Frank Warwick. Jason Cann, Frank’s fishing partner at this year’s World Carp Classic, was also with him. 250-pic3They were like the pied piper; everywhere they went, so did the crowds. One of the other attractions were the 2 models from PV.TV who were dressed as mermaids, including the body paint! The show was very well attended with over 6,000 visitors and the presentations from Andy Chambers, myself and others had big crowds. There was positive feedback from everybody involved in the show and I am certain that it will be even bigger next year. The party after the show was a great occasion with the Gipsy Kings performing a private show. The wine and conversation flowed. Ardy Veltkamp, Martin Locke and the rest of the guests must have raised the room temperature as the lights dimmed and two dancers decided it was so hot they had to take off their clothes…but that’s another story!

All in all a fantastic weekend, a very well run show and certainly one not to be missed for next year.

Congratulations to the organisers Carplove. Very well done. Ross
