10th Palotas Cup

No rest for the boilie anglers, the angling season is far from over. This year’s WCC is behind us, but next year’s is ahead of us.

The East-European participants of WCC 2010 have barely said goodbye to each other and left the shores of Lac de Madine, some of them have already met again, in Hungary, on the Palotás reservoir. Rain and mudThe 10th Palotás Cup – Carplove-PVTV WCC 2011 Qualifier event was held between October 4-9. The main prize includes taking part on the World Carp Classic 2011, with all travel, lodging and registration expenses covered by Carplove.

It is getting harder to take part on the World Carp Classic, the world’s most prestigious carping event, as every top carp angler wants to be there. Getting a spot is a worthy prize, and the elite of the East-European carp anglers have gathered to decide, which team gets to go. 24 experienced teams with one goal, to get into World Carp Classic 2011. The event has a special rule – fish below 5 kg do not count in your result.

The qualifier was originally held in June but was cancelled after 48 hours due to extreme weather conditions. 445-pic2The weather didn’t favour the anglers this time either. The first days were spent in a struggle against constant rain and mud, and just when everyone was talking about the possibility of having to cancel this event too, the rain stopped and the clouds disappeared overnight.

The Palotás reservoir is well known for its amazing population of huge carp. This event was an exception in a row of events with record breaking combined catches. It was also unique in the history of the reservoir, as no 20+ kg carp were caught.

Winners Laszlo & NorbertBecause of this, the event was very exciting, as the teams were often just a few kg’s from each other. One fish could mean all the difference.

For the first few days the StarBaits Slovakia III team had a strong lead, with the Tiger Baits Team, that finished 5th on this years WCC, slowly gaining on them. George Tite & Lucian Oliviu Orhei were competing for the third position with the NG Carp Team, the StarBaits Slovakia I, and the MikBaits team. The race was tight, even the smallest mistake could turn the tables.

In the end, the Tiger Baits team overtook the Starbaits III team during a very exciting last night, landing a 10 and a 13 kg carp within a few hours.

Congratulations to László Járai and Norbert Csorba, and good luck to them on the World Carp Classic 2011.

The largest fish was caught by the PVTV Team of Radu Morar and József Ács.
