Midweek, another lost fish to us and yet more good news from our friends… they had banked a lovely Madine mirror of 38.12.  Great stuff!  Meanwhile, we persevered in our attempts to combat the difficult nature of our swim and simply needed a little more time, and runs, to find the right solution to the conundrum. We felt that we were getting there, but the runs had now dried up and, with conditions worsening for us it was hardly likely to improve now.   Then, out of the blue, typically whilst we were midway through having our dinner, an obviously large carp picked up my bait and was doing its level best to smash my kit!

By the time I got to the rod, it was all over.  Sadly, the hooklink had parted.  It was just one of those things, it happens from time to time, but why did it have to happen now!

Perhaps, and it is likely, a crayfish had been molesting my bait and had damaged and weakened the link, we’ll never know for sure but its a possibility.  The carp had barrelled up to the surface on the take and when the link parted it bow-waved out across the bay creating a mini sunami in its fit of anger as I watched on forlornly.  Meanwhile, My fellow Team Carp Addict members had added further to their tally with a fine 31lb mirror, well in guys!384-pic2

When the time arrived for us to leave for home, we reflected on our trip.  The purpose of this visit had always been to learn something about Madine and her residents, and we had done just that.  We considered that although it would have been gratifying, the physical act of catching fish was not our main priority.  Apart from everything else, we discovered that even when the lake is suffering a torpour and the fish are moody, Madine can still produce some amazing results.

During that week, we heard of a pair of Dutch anglers who only banked one fish… a 49.12 mirror.  We also know of two other anglers who banked just three fish… the smallest being 47lb, the largest 56lb.  We also know of a French angler who banked three fish… the smallest a mid 30, and the biggest 65lb!  Yes indeed, Madine is quite magical!
