Madine – It’s day 2 for the WCC Team Print E-mail
393-pic1Steve Howard’s WCC blog (no 11)

Yesterday was very frenetic for everyone and even though it was clear that the well organised groups were achieving their goals despite a heavy workload, I was still surprised to see just how much was being accomplished. I have often written about the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, but even I was shocked.  With eight miles of heavy, undulating bank walked by Andy Chambers and his small team, they had not only pegged out the swims, but also photographed and video recorded each swim.393-pic2
From my understanding, these photos have now been loaded into a google map display by the media team, - which was also set up yesterday – and the plan is that a ‘virtual peg’, colour-coded as they appear in the official WCC overview map, will be displayed.  Each section, with its numbered pegs 1 – 13, will receive any images of any fish caught during the competition, and will be viewable from its respective peg number.  This means that all you have to do to check out the fish that your friends have caught, is obtain their peg number and visit the corresponding virtual peg. ‘Simples’

Over at Madine 2-3, another small group of guys had been very busy in the sports hall. Before they could even begin their main-objectives, there was the small matter of moving absolute mountains of unwanted gear out of, and then needed equipment into the building prior to erecting the stage. By close of play late yesterday evening, the stage was set for the event in more ways than one, all that was missing were the many banners, flags and other necessary chattel.  393-pic3I stayed well away from all the major activity as the last thing these teams needed was a decrepit old journalist sitting in the wings, loitering with no intent!  I spent a few hours locked away in my room after breakfast , (I wish they would let ME have a key!) typing out yesterday’s blog before heading over to HQ where everything had by now been set up and everybody was in full swing.

My main involvement here at Madine is to work with the media team whom, with little angling knowledge, need the occasional bit of advice and guidance in certain areas.  With their objectives mapped out and the team coordinated by their lead project manager, Matt, the small group had various tasks throughout the day.  One of these tasks was to do a short video clip which, because everyone else with any degree of physical ability was busy, involved me.393-pic4

You may have seen the strapline “Madine goes green and so do we!”, and the team were asked to record me explaining the ethos behind that.  Also we covered best practice angling, which, if my understanding is clear, we covered adequately in an impromptu fashion.  My work was done!  I hope that the media team can edit out some of my bumbling narrative, as we did both elements in one, totally unrehearsed take! Anyway, I’ll leave it there for today... I think I heard somebody mention dinner; you can call me anything you like Ross, but please don’t call me late for dinner!
Thought for the day: The early bird gets the worm, but it’s the second mouse that gets the cheese!

More tomorrow!
Tight lines.
