| Good Angling Ross! Steve Howard’s WCC blog (part 2) |

![]() When Ross asked me to be the skipper of the boat that I mentioned in my last blog, I was bang-to-rights guilty of greedily accepting the opportunity with both hands. I guess that it will in some small way recompense me for my past yearnings to own such a boat, and what better place to go afloat for a week than on Madine during the WCC. Anyway, once I had snatched at Ross’s shiny lure and I had slipped over his eagerly waiting net, I then discovered his other plans for me. He’s a wily ‘angler’ is Ross. First came the news of a dedicated film crew... yeah, it sounded great, but how good were they? A website link soon followed, linking me to a video on YouTube... superb, these guys are really good! Then, just when I was least expecting it, his rod tip smashed over “Would you like to work with them, conducting bankside interviews etc?” I was hooked again, get the net! That bolt from the blue was followed by “and as you are going to be there anyway, perhaps you could do a daily blog to cover the event, as there are outside magazine media (there aren’t many who won’t be there!) who could perhaps edit and use the reports.” Things were getting better by the minute, how could I resist Ross’ tempting bait? Come to think of it, the real clincher (‘bait’) came when I was told that the WCC Team would be catered for by a 5-star chef all week. What dirty tricks you play Ross; I was proper nailed by that ‘greedy-pig’ rig! What can I say... if I were a carp, I would spend an awful lot of time in front of a camera lens, a right mug-fish I am! The upshot of that, short, 5-minute conversation with Ross was that I had suddenly acquired enough tasks to keep me busy for a whole week at Madine! You know what, I might not be fishing this year but I’m actually getting a bit of pre-event buzz now. Not fishing will free me up to do other things, like spending a bit of time chatting (blagging a beer or two off of you guys! ☺) Seriously though, it will be great to catch up with you all again and I’m looking forward to it with a fair degree of that usual fervour that I felt as a competitor. Anyway, I’ll keep my offerings fairly short for now, as I don’t want to lose your attention - I know that many of you are busily going over your check lists again and again to ensure that you have everything you need to take to Madine... Getting exciting now, isn’t it! More tomorrow! Tight Lines |
