Hooks With the Range Rover left at a Spanish main dealer a hire car then took me to the airport, England again was a premature port of call, the repair of the onboard computer would buy a new mode of transport and a Discovery was soon back at port. From Bilbao to Mequinenza I again travelled and stopped to stay with my brother and load my personal fishing tackle. I then travelled to the Portuguese border, to fish a lake with much future promise, a lake with at least half dozen 50lb commons in and roughly 6 acres in size. Hot weather and lots of crayfish activity ensured that it was no easy fishing. I managed early morning and late afternoon and night sessions for no result, my only confidence came from the Ultima Hardcore hooklink material used and had good opportunity to play rigs. Some days were spent on the River Guadiana, watching and learning in the most breath taking of backdrops.

I had an appointment with a fishing club president and a new landlord, as I jumped into the disco with enough time under my belt I was ready as ever. With half the journey behind me I looked down at the dashboard as the sound of a dying engine and the smell of smoke ensured I steered off the motorway and luckily straight onto a petrol station forecourt. No water may have been the culprit coupled my enthusiasm for offski before checking the car. I was towed to Badajoz and arranged for my fishing equipment to be homed in a local tackle shop. Gutted, hotel rooms, another flight back to blighty, a fist full of dollars and the third car lucky was sat in the Auto Trader looking up at me.

HooksThis latest pit stop in England was a much needed one, I received several boxes of goodies from Fox, picked up my match bait from Baron Baker and nipped into WCC HQ to drop off the official match hooks. The previous night was a long one, and both my father and I bowled into Ross Honey's office after an effortless 30 minute trek across the Hampshire countryside. After a cup of coffee or two Ross whipped out his video camera for an interview, unprepared and unshaven it was not too long before we said our goodbyes as the clock was ticking for me to get back to best laid plans in Spain.

I drove from Bilbao to the heart of Extremadura, secured a large rented apartment and offloaded a full wagon of kit and then drove Badajoz to pick up my fishing tackle. The familiar sight of rod bag, bait bucket, landing net is always a welcome one and could not wait to get it back to the new house and prepare for some much needed fishing time. My new abode is set amongst some of the best fresh water carp fishing Spain has to offer, within 30 minutes drive I have more than a lifetime of lakes, rivers and reservoirs to explore and wet a line.
