Stephen is the son of the famous English Carp angler Ron Buss and has seen a lifetime of fishing adventure already. He was a former high flyer before entering fishing full time and is now regarded as one of the best specimen fish guides on the scene.
He has recently taken Ultima sponsorship and consultancy and will be representing his Country by taking part in this year’s World Carp Classic. Stephen has caught and guided some very special and very famous catches and has been the brain behind some of fishing’s most forward of thinking both in method and technique. Owner of www.carpandcatbussters.com we are sure his blog will make some very interesting reading and hope you all enjoy and learn a trick or two along the way.
This is my first attempt at a blog; it will take you through the thinking behind some of my methods, my stages of preparation until match day is upon us and even an event summary from the eyes of yours truly. I will tell you some fishing stories and try to update you all as regular as possible due to my workload, if you have any questions or require help with this blogs content then please do not hesitate in contacting a member of the World Carp Classic Admin team or myself. My background is not in fishing, my study and positions as a Strategic Research Scientist for some of the biggest blue chip companies in the World and a passion for angling lend well together and I am lucky in more ways than one to do what I do today. Five years ago a life changing event led to me choosing a full time career in fishing and set up a guided fishing product that has now been taken to global proportions. During these last five years and the fact that my Father is a true superstar of fishing ensured that Monster size species fish of over 200lbs were soon under the belt and in the spotlight of angling and even world press.
I had just put the phone down when it rang again; the mobile battery was near flat as was my patience with the previous caller. To my delight it was Pete Wilson, an angler with true fishing achievements firmly under his belt and had paved the way to my position considered with Ultima. I had fished with Pete previously a few times and he is one of those anglers you are instantly at ease with in the company of. Three things entered my mind as I saw his name on the screen of the phone; could it be news of the new braided samples? Could it be bait related or maybe a fishing trip to Spain? With the match date announced and the invite to fish as his partner the diary had already been blotted with blue ink and the thought process of preparation had already started to tick in the moments after the battery had died. I had witnessed my dad, the first carp angler to catch a Thousand pound of carp for charity within 24 hours, and had instant visions of hauling. But Lac Madine as this year’s WCC venue was contrary to the thoughts of easy pickings and 24 hours on a pond Vs a week session on a lake had me grateful of a few months preparation as the mobile was put back on to charge. |
