Mono or Braid for Madine? Print E-mail

Just starting to get all the gear ready for the first session of the year and one of the first jobs is to re spool the reels. If you are thinking of fishing Madine or a similar type lake then one of the big questions you need to think about is whether to use mono or braid. Some of the things to take into consideration are that if you are practising for the match it is great to be able to fish at 500 metres with braid but you are not going to be able to do that in the match!! Also a word of warning if practising at Madine and fishing braid is that the yachts can be a real nightmare and have no regard for the anglers. That can mean you can easily be wiped out and with the cost of braid can be very expensive. This also impacts on the carp with lots of lost lines out on the water, a few times I was out in the speed boat across the lake and picked up kilometres of old braid around the propeller. If that wasn’t bad enough beware of the pike anglers they are told not to do it, but a lot of them if they pick your line up with their lure will cut your line on purpose! So taking all that into consideration I prefer to use mono on Madine it sinks better, is better with the weed when its gets rough and it’s a lot cheaper when you get wiped out! People go on about indication with mono but I’ve never had a problem with indication even at long distance.
